Tim Cook: iPhone SE demand stronger than expected

The iPhone SE may be an entry level phone with specs to match, but that isn’t deterring customers from purchasing the handset. According to CEO Tim Cook, sales of the phone are off to a great start with demand exceeding supply.

Apple announced it sold 51.5 million iPhones in the second quarter of 2016, but it did not break down this number by model. When discussing iPhone sales during the earnings conference call, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned the SE model specifically and confirmed that consumer demand for the iPhone SE was stronger than expected. As a result of this demand, ship times for the phone have slipped to 2-3 weeks in the US and abroad, despite analyst claims of lackluster sales. Apple is working hard to boost supply and improve ship times said Cook during the earnings call.

Apple reported its Q2 2016 earnings today, announcing its first-ever decline in iPhone sales and its first year-over-year revenue decline in 13 years. Apple sold 51 million iPhones in the quarter, down from 61 million units in the same quarter last year. Revenue also dropped from $58 billion in 2015 to $50.6 billion in 2016. Apple expects this downward decline to continue with revenue of $43 billion forecasted for the upcoming Q3 2016.

iOS 9 beta users getting ‘new update is now available’ popup message due to glitch

We’re getting several reports from our readers who have installed iOS 9 beta that they are getting a popup informing them that “a new iOS update is now available. Please update from the iOS 9 beta”. But when you go to Settings > Software Update, there is no OTA update available. Apple also hasn’t released an update on their developer site. So it looks like it is just a glitch.

We don’t expect Apple to release an update for iOS 9 beta before the September 9 iPhone event. It is also unlikely that Apple will release an update today as it is a long weekend today on account of the Labor day holiday tomorrow.

We expect Apple to release iOS 9 GM immediately after the event on September 9th, followed by the release to the public on September 16th.

Golden Master (GM) is the final build of iOS 9 before the software is publicly released and usually has the same build number as the one that is pre-installed on the new iPhones. Developers will also be able to submit their iOS 9 compatible apps using iOS 9 GM.

Did you get the popup message? Let us know in the comments.

Check out the few steps below to ensure that you find any hidden messages that may be waiting for you in the Facebook Messenger app.

How to find hidden messages in Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger is still one of the most popular messaging apps in the world regardless of the haters. However, there are certain circumstances where a new message will not prompt any notification. Some messages sent from people outside of your friends may remain hidden within the Facebook Messenger app

Step 1
